Our New Buggy! |
Starting to build a new dune buggy requires, I think, a little preparation. You should ask yourself a few important questions before jumping into such a project. I think you should take into consideration all the things you plan to do with your new buggy. |
1. Linda and I want to have a buggy that we can share in the build, both enjoy, use BOTH OUR IDEAS in the construction, and lastly to have something WE wanted to do together. 2. We wanted a dual purpose vehicle. We want not only to build the most interesting buggy that we can do, but will be able to show at shows, drive on the street, and drive off road without worrying that it will hold up. 3. It will have a wheel base long enough to handle the ride quailty that we are looking for as well holding the front end on the ground by not being so short. 4. Ground clearance will be substantial so off roading will not subject the buggy to bottoming out. 5. We have decided to build our own engine from the ground up with all new parts. That way we know there will be NO WEAK spots in the engine. We will also be detailing the engine as if it was only going to buggy shows - but that is not going to be the case. |
Linda found the right engine stand that we need. It has two legs facing forward so we can lower the engine to the ground for installation on the the buggy with out having to man handle the engine or invest a hoist. I want to save as much space as possible while doing this project. The part that always seems to amaze me is how She can find things priced right! She got a deal for an engine stand for $39.00 new! It arrives in the next few days so we can get started on that engine. |
